I now make over $130k+/month. See all the Shopify store income reports here.
Maybe you’ve been wanting to start a store, but don’t know where to start or what platform to choose.
Maybe you’re scared to start a store because you don’t know how you’ll possibly be able to drive traffic to it.
Maybe you already have a store and can’t understand why you’re not making anything but chump change in it.
Maybe you’ve spent some time on your store and seen only crickets in traffic.
Maybe you’ve tried other platforms like Etsy, ebay, Amazon, Creative Market, the list goes on and on and have seen a little bit of money, but know there’s more out there for you.
Whatever your situation is, you’re in the right place! Opening up my own Shopify store, very quickly changed my entire life, and while I’m not promising massive amounts of money your very first month, what I AM saying is that most people don’t realize the POWER having your own Shopify store has.
Today, I’m going to be sharing my Shopify store income report for August 2017 (3 months of having the store)
Shopify Store Income Report – $40,917 (August 2017)
Most of you know that I’ve been selling on ebay for over 20 years now. Back before they were even CALLED ebay. 🙂 I was just a teen back then, but really realized the power of selling things online. It was a whole new world for me. An exciting world.
But there are several things I’ve always LOATHED about selling online.
- I HATE to ship products.
- I hate keeping track of inventory.
- I hate keeping everything perfectly organized to sell.
- I hate not being able to find something right as it sells.
- I hate following someone else’s rules.
- I hate when they CHANGE said rules and I have to go back through all my ads and completely redo all of them to comply.
- I hate feeling like I have no ownership over the store. Like I’m powerless.
- I hate not having the capability of making certain sales the way I want them to be, instead of working with the basic tools they give me.
- I hate being at the MERCY of a customer who does something shady and leaves bad feedback and everyone thinks it’s ME who has done something bad. Or competitors who leave negative feedback to ruin you (yep, it’s happened!)
So, while there’s a lot of good things about selling on a platform like eBay or Etsy, there are also a lot of bad things you MUST accept in order to sell on someone else’s “turf.”
I sold on Amazon, I’ve sold on Creative Market, I’ve sold on ebay, I’ve sold on a membership site, I’ve sold on a stock photo site, and I’ve sold on Shopify.
For me, out of all the options I’ve tried, Shopify is, HANDS DOWN, the best way to go.
Update: this is the month that changed everything for me.
As you’ll start to see in my latter income reports, this moment, this month…was so pivotal for me, so foundational, that I shot up from making around $50k/month consistently on Shopify to around $130k/month and $250k/month consistently and there’s a good reason why.
I took a course online.
I had purchased this course for $2,000 on June 13, 2017, but didn’t get around to going through the course until this month.
I remember the owner of the course saying something like, “If you take this course seriously and you do everything in it and keep on it steadily, in one year, 12 months from now, you will be a leader in your field of play.”
Immediately that intrigued me. Who wouldn’t want to be on the top of it all, right?! I mean, we work hard, we want to succeed.
I cannot begin to describe to you how valuable this course has been to me. It changed everything for me and to date, it is my #1 course I’ve ever purchased.
Lemme tell you a little about it. The course only opens up (from what I see and follow him), once a year in June. The course is by Todd Herman and it’s called the 90 Day Year. Idk if you’ve ever heard of it or not, but if you know me, you’ll know that I NEVER talk about courses. I never promote them, usually because they are junk.
Sorry, but most courses ARE junk. To date, I’ve only taken a COUPLE that have ACTUALLY helped me. Todd’s is the #1.
This month, I learned how to track things. I learned how to manage my time better. I learned what phase of growth I’m in and what tasks I SHOULD be working on during this phase of my business.
BECAUSE I started batching my work (something he taught me) and BECAUSE I stopped working IN my business and started working ON my business (on the right tasks that a person in my phase of business should be working on (and he has all the phases broken down)), I started flying.
It’s that simple. The 90 Day Year is EXACTLY what I needed to propel me forward in a major way. This is the month, I became a leader. This is the month that changed everything and starting next month, you’ll see those figures increased by a LOT – to $251,276 in fact!
Income total for August 2017 (Shopify store only; doesn’t include blog/misc. income) – $40,917
Traffic total (to my Shopify store only) for August 2017 – 12,021
Stats per product:
This is my favorite part of researching analytics. Figuring out which products sell (or get downloaded for free) the most. Stuff like this tells me EXACTLY what to create more of in my store and what to stop creating, so it’s something I gauge very heavily.
If you have the $79/month Shopify plan, which I do, you’ll get FANtastic analytics reports that will give you all this information broken down by product. I then go into my newsletter (I have ConvertKit and Leadpages and love them) and compare them in order to get conversion rates.
My new binder out this month was my Handwriting Binder.
For this item, I ran a sale for 50% off for 5 days. Only 8 people purchased in that time period. The product was listed at $37 so half off was $18.50. I profited $148 on this item. One more sale came through for this item at full price later on in the month.
For me, this was a fail. 9 sales total is not a lot. But while I considered this binder a massive fail for my goal, (update:) I would later go on to make this same binder (originally a fail) and turn it into a huge SUCCESS.
So what I would say is that just because you start out with a product that fails, does NOT mean it will fail forever. As of May 12, 2018, that one product has now been sold 1,143 times! Not bad for a failure of a product, eh?! 🙂
First Day of School Signs
I created and released a set of First Day of School Signs.
These signs were free for 72 hours and got a total of 351 downloads during that period of time.
In all of August, they got a total of 358 purchases and made me $24.
The money wasn’t necessarily the goal in this particular product. The goal for this product was to give something for free to get people to the store. They get to the store, see it, see other things they like and buy other things as well.
This was an effective strategy and moving forward, I’ll give more things away for free as time goes on.
