Have you ever had someone do something that seemed very small but touched you deeply? Things like slipping you a note or sending a card at just the right time with just the right message? Or stopping by to bring you dinner or clean your house because you’re sick or just so busy with your kiddos?
Aren’t those the BEST things??!!
Things that we sometimes think to do that seem really small can be really big to the one receiving our blessing. Do you know why?
Because it’s done in love. Love is big no matter how small the gesture.

Love changes things and people. Colossians 3 talks about setting our minds on the things of God, the things above. There are a lot of “stop doing these things because they’re only going to hurt you” and also “do these things because they will help you and those around you”.
But then the Word says this: “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity,” Colossians 3:14.
Wow – love has the ability to bind us together in perfect unity. Perfect. Unity.
Why does this seem so big? Unity – unity is defined as everything coming together as one, all the parts put together to make a whole, working together in harmony.
You know, if we could all work together and look out for the best for each other this would be a pretty great world to live in. Romans 12:10 even tells us to “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
So what does real love look like? “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs,” 1 Corinthians 13:4-5.
This is what we’re called to do – love one another. John 15:12 commands us “…Love each other as I have loved you.”
And Romans 12:10 adds “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
And do you want to know the best part about all of this? Love helps all of us. “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins,” 1 Peter 4:8.
But mark this truth – love is not just saying “I love you…I’ll be praying for you…I’m thinking of you.” It’s present, it’s in the trenches, and it is action. 1 John 3:18 tells us “…let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” Put some feet to those words and DO something. SHOW your love.
It never has to be big…it’s really the small things that make the difference. That constant friend who will always listen. That person who drops by with a plate of cookies just because they’re thinking of you. The ones who you know you can call at anytime and they’d be there for you to DO whatever you need.
Don’t just speak love – BE love. Ask yourself this question: “If I lost the ability to speak, would people around me know I love them?” BE the answer yes to that question!
