Does your garbage disposal need a little scent uplift?
Chances are, with everything that goes in there, stinky odors will begin to accumulate over time and smell really bad.
These fantastic DIY Garbage Disposal Refreshers are just what you need!
DIY Garbage Disposal Refreshers
Ingredients:
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup salt
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/3 cup liquid castile soap (I use this one; it lasts like forever)
- 30 drops Lemon essential oil
Directions to make these garbage disposal fresheners:
Step 1: Combine the salt and baking soda in a bowl.
Step 2: Add the pure castile soap and essential oil.
Step 3: Add 1 Tablespoon of water at a time until it forms a small ball form, kinda of like damp sand. If you accidentally added too much water, just add a little more baking soda and salt.
Step 4: Use a tablespoon measurement spoon and pack the mixture into the spoon and set the balls onto parchment paper to dry.
Step 5: Let the garbage disposal scent balls/pods/bombs dry for 24 hours. One batch will make 36 DIY garbage disposal refreshers.
Step 6: Store them in a glass jar and use 1-3 refresher tabs to give your disposal for a fresh Lemon scent deodorizer.

Jessica says
Do you run the water when you throw these in?
Sarah Titus says
Yes, I wouldn’t suggest running the disposal without running water.
Leona says
I substituted Epsom salts for the salt to sharpen the blades while deodorizing disposal.

I need the user instructions.. I am guessing but that could lead to damage.. so my theory: run hot water, drop bomb, turn on disposal, run for awhile. Turn off disposal.. Turn off water. Ok.. I may be a bit ocd. I need details as I am all new to this. But they look like they turned out great.
Sarah Titus says
That’s correct Pam. You won’t need to run the dishwasher for very long though, just long enough for the refresher(s) to do their job.
Pam says
Can you use lemon juice instead of the oil
Sarah Titus says
You could try it, but I don’t think it would work the same. The mixture would be off balance.
Abigail says
These are really cool. Will they work in the toilet tank too?
Sarah Titus says
Great question Abigail. I’m not sure. I don’t think I’d chance it, to be honest, because there’s soap in there. If you omitted the soap, it might be fine.
Samantha says
Can I use another oil like Orange?
Sarah Titus says
Absolutely Samantha. 🙂
