Do you think these would help with a sore throat/cough for sick kiddos? They have those suckers at the pharmacy, but I would feel better giving my kids something homemade.
Sarah Titus says
Depending on the age of the child, you might have to know the ingredients that help with a sore throat. I know there are essential oils that help with sore throats in particular and if the particular brand of oil you use can be ingested, then it could work. You’d just want to do some research.
Carla says
How many lollipops does this recipe make?
Sarah Titus says
About 15-20 lollipops Carla. 🙂
viviana says
Do you think I can put these in a box and mail to a friend? They look awesome.
Sarah Titus says
That’s a great question Viviana. I’m not sure. I’ve not tried it.
Lesli says
How long would you boil the mixture if you don’t have a thermometer?
Sarah Titus says
Lesli, you would want to have one or it won’t harden properly.
Claire Rousseau says
Do you need to add essential oil, if so what kind do you use?
Sarah Titus says
Claire, you can omit the essential oil if you’d like. I use a therapeutic grade essential oil, so when you’re looking at oils, look for that grade as they have medicinal benefits. For example, therapeutic grade Lemon essential oil helps with low iron levels, gives energy, and myriad of other health benefits! 🙂
Jessica says
How long do these last ? A week ? A month ?
Sarah Titus says
You know, I’m not sure…they don’t last long around here. lol.
Hanna says
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! The pops came out delicious, I used organic wildflower honey & vanilla to flavor them. We’re giving them away as favors at my Winnie the Pooh baby shower! Thanks again!❤️
Sarah Titus says
Absolutely Hanna. Glad you like them and all the best at your baby shower! 🙂
Trish says
What type of honey should I use? I tried this with some I had at home and it seems dark and smells burnt. Should I use any particular type?
Sarah Titus says
Any honey will work just fine. I’m thinking that the oven may have gotten too hot (each oven cooking times vary). I would try cooking less time and on a lower temp. 🙂
Trish says
Thanks. I left the stove on medium heat and waited for the candy thermometer to reach hard crack. Should I turn temp down perhaps? Also this may be a silly question but can heating honey become
Toxic?
Sarah Titus says
Not that I’m aware of, but if it’s brown like that, it got overcooked somehow. The color shouldn’t change.
Amanda Pereira says
Can I use parchment paper instead of molds??
Sarah Titus says
I would personally use a mold. 🙂 The mixture would be too loose for parchment paper.
janet Lair says
can these be used as honey spoons for hot t? thanks Janet
Sarah Titus says
They could be if you want, absolutely, but once hot, keep in mind they lose their medicinal purpose (depending on which essential oil you use, you may not care). If you use something like Lemon, it’s not really a big deal, but if you use something like OnGuard essential oil to soothe a sore throat, it would lose those properties. If you add something like OnGuard for example, just add that oil at the end of the process, when they are cooling off and not so hot. 🙂
