I’m at the point in my Christian life where I just want to completely dissect every verse of the Bible; I love it SO much!
I think of the verse, Matthew 5:18, where it talks about every jot and tittle. Every pen stroke, every little comma in the Bible is so important because it helps us to understand what we are reading more, so taking time to really go slow in reading the Bible, taking notice of every small thing is really FUN! 🎉
When I first became a Christian, I started by reading the Bible in a year. It was a lofty goal I know, my first goal as a new believer, but I actually accomplished it, much to my own surprise! I went on to read the Bible three more times all the way through after that.
After that I said to myself, “What’s next? How can I learn more?”
So I started learning the Bible by topic. If I had a sin in my life or something I needed to clean up, I read all about it and immersed myself into the pages of Scripture until I learned everything it was to learn about that topic and until I changed that sin in my life.
Then having a rock-solid foundation as a Christian, a well-watered tree, I wanted to really challenge myself.
“What’s a fun way to learn more about God and the Bible?”, I thought to myself.
At church, one of the sermons was about Paul and I thought, “I should do Bible character’s studies”, and that’s exactly what I did.
I started with Moses, as he was my favorite. Then I went into David’s life, and now I’m currently on Paul’s life and ministry. While I’m learning about Paul, I’ve learned about many other characters in the Bible as well (like Timothy, for example) so this list was a lot of refreshing for me as I wrote everything down, but oh so valuable!
Each character comes to life as you study them out. Stories shape other stories and the characters intertwine. Oftentimes you wonder, is this the same person as I learned about in another story? They have the same name, but is it the same person?
This Bible characters that starts with a-z list will help you identify each character better and intertwine them in each other’s lives.
Learning about each Bible character in the Bible is a pursuit I’m still doing and it’s enriched my Christian walk SOO much. 💎
For example, before I studied out the life of David, I hated him, I have to admit. He was one of the worst characters to me. What he did with Bathsheeba and her husband was really bad and I just didn’t like him at all. But studying out his entire life in full made me realize there’s so much good he did. I never understand why someone who could do the bad stuff he did could be called a “man after God’s own heart”. After learning about him, I now know how he was. I get it. I understand. His life was incredible and he’s now my second favorite character in the Bible (right after Moses).
I encourage you, if you’re looking for a fun way to learn more about God and the Bible, to do Bible character studies. Pick someone you would love to learn about and dive right in! It’ll really fascinate you as you go!
