Making your own DIY lip balm is not only fun as you can customize it any way you want, but it also makes for a great gift, and it’s a LOT cheaper too! They literally cost pennies on the dollar to make and are way healthier than what can find in the stores.
Want color? No problem. Check out the bottom of the post for directions on how to add color!
DIY Lip Balm
Ingredients:
- 1 ounce beeswax (around 3 tablespoons)
- 1 ounce coconut oil (around 2 tablespoons)
- 1/2 ounce shea butter (around 1 tablespoon)
- 1/2 ounce cocoa butter (around 1 tablespoon)
- 20 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 10 drops Lavender essential oil
- Lip balm containers (tubes) (lip balm cups) (glass lip balm cups)
Note: If you like your DIY lip balm a little softer, add 1/2 oz more coconut oil to the recipe. If you like your DIY lip balm a little harder, add 1/2 oz more beeswax to the recipe.
This recipe will make 20 DIY lip balm tubes or 12 small containers or 3 big containers. Be sure to have enough containers when you make the recipe or cut the recipe in half.
Directions:
Step 1: Line up the containers on your countertops. If you’re using the lip balm tubes, be sure they are screwed all the way down to the bottom of the tube so when you fill it, it doesn’t overflow.
Step 2: Measure all the butters and oils in a glass jar.
Step 3: Place glass jar in sauce/saute pan with 1 1/2 inches of boiling water.
Step 4: Stir every few minutes until everything is melted. Use a popsicle stick to stir for easier cleanup.
Step 5: Once melted, removed from heat and let the wax sit for 3 minutes to cool down.
Step 6: After the mixture has cooled down, add your essential oils to the mixture.
Step 7: Pour the mixture into the lip balm containers. It’s okay if you spill a little bit. The lip balm is easy to come off countertops and plastic. Let the mixture cool down completely and you are done!
Step 8: If you’d like a little pigment to your DIY lip balm, add a pinch of mineral makeup (here’s my personal favorite brand).
The DIY lip balms you create make a fantastic gift and can be customized by pigment color or by scent/flavor. Another classic combination is Peppermint and Orange essential oils.
