As a kid, I had NO CLUE what St. Patrick’s Day was until one day at school I started getting pinched…a LOT! 😳
Let’s just say I quickly found out! 😂
Being the creative girl I was, I hurried and cut out the shape of a shamrock, colored it green, and made a button pin I could wear.
I stopped getting pinched.
Every year, I made SURE I was wearing something green…although the color for St. Patrick’s day wasn’t originally green, it was blue! More on that story at the bottom of the post! 😊
Here’s the thing…parents, do NOT forget to have your child wear green on March 17, every single year. Have a chat with them, tell them what it’s about, and save them from some pain of pinching!
To talk about it with your children and make it FUN, I created some super CUTE kawaii-style (my fav) free printable St. Patrick’s Day coloring pages!!
If you want, you can even have your kids print out a sheet and safety pin it to their shirt if they don’t have any green clothes. ❤️ Yep, I’m saving one child at a time from pinching horror! 😆

Fun Facts About St. Patrick’s Day for Kids
Blue vs. Green – Did you know St. Patrick’s color was originally blue? It’s true! We wear green now because of the shamrocks and because Ireland is known as the “Emerald Isle.”
But it started out as blue. Back in the 1700’s, King George III created a special honor called the “Order of St. Patrick.” The official color he chose for it was a light sky blue. So for the longest time, blue was the color associated with the saint and the royal court. It wasn’t green at all!
But here is where the story gets really cool. The people of Ireland wanted a color that represented them, their beautiful green land and the shamrocks that grew there, rather than just the British crown. They started wearing green ribbons and shamrocks as a quiet symbol of their Irish pride and unity.
Over time, the “people’s color” won out over the “royal color.” By the time Irish immigrants began celebrating here in America with big parades, the Emerald Isle’s beautiful green had taken over completely.
The Shamrock – A true shamrock only has three leaves, not four. St. Patrick used the three leaves to teach people about the Holy Trinity. Finding a four-leaf clover is just considered “extra lucky,” which is weird because all blessings come from God!
Leprechauns are Shoemakers – In Irish folklore, leprechauns aren’t just pot-of-gold guardians; they’re actually mending shoes. They earn that gold by working hard! In reality, we are teaching children to steal other people’s hard-earned income. Definitely a teaching point for your children as you color these March coloring sheets, to teach them that while some people steal, we don’t, and here’s why and give them reasons why we don’t do that kind of thing, even if others do.
The Pinching Rule – Why do we get pinched if we don’t wear green? The story goes that wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns. If they can see you, they might pinch you!

• Other printables are either functional OR cute. I bridge the gap between the two. Since I'm a single mom and don't have time to mess around and am a kid at heart, I love something that actually propels me forward and gets the job done quickly, while still having that super cute vibe I'm known for.
• I'm a graphic designer FIRST. This means my printables, whether free or paid for, will always be of the highest quality and print crisp and clear on any printer.
• I love what I do and I do the work myself. I'm not hiring these out. This is my life, my hobby, my passion, my heart.
• My fans are obsessed with my work. To date, I've made over $23M on printables alone (organically) in the past 8 years.
