So many people think they are so godly. Everyone has something to say and everyone is right in their own mind. They are self-proclaimed experts. They know everything, no matter what it’s about, even if they’ve never personally walked through something.
Their ideals, theology, thoughts, and precepts are always right and how dare you if you try to disagree with them. They hover around others who are weak-willed who agree with everything they say and block and immediately get rid of anyone who disagrees with them. After all, THEY are the expert.
The problem is, they don’t see they’re doing this and it’s hard to convince them because to them, they’re never wrong.
How sad of a life it is to live that way and at the end of it all, find out you were wrong. That there IS a standard, that there ARE rules that govern how we should live, speak, and act toward each other. What a shocking day that will be for them, to realize they have it all wrong.
So how do you know if you’re someone like that? And how do you prevent from ever starting down that path?
Two words: God’s sovereignty.
We must take ourselves off the throne, admit that the world, in fact, DOES NOT revolve around us, and place the rightful King upon that throne: God, our Father.
Not everyone can be right. It’s only the Word of God that is right all the time and we must absolutely align our thoughts, ideas, heart, and motives up to Him and His will alone in order to be right.
Once we do that, our lives can be governed by His sovereignty and we can live in light of that truth.
He is God. I am not.
It’s a daily, hourly, minute-by-minute choice to put him and keep Him on the throne, submitting our wills to His.
Once we do that, we can begin to tread down the path of holiness.
For the Bible says: “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16
It doesn’t say, Sarah is holy or John is holy. It says, “I”. God Almighty. HE is the standard of holiness and THAT is what we must pattern our lives up to.
So many people justify their sin by thinking (or saying), “I am not as bad as…Fred…over there.”
There’s ALWAYS going to be someone better and someone worse than you and you can justify ANYTHING by this wrongful thinking.
We must place GOD on the throne. HE is the standard of holiness. HE alone is perfect. He alone is powerful. Compare yourself to HIM. Not your friends, your co-workers, your spouse, or your neighbor down the street.
HE, God, is holy. We are to be like HIM.
For the next few months, we’re going to deep dive into God’s holiness and how to apply that to our lives so that we may be more like God. Bookmark this page as it’ll be updated often with more jewels and practical tips of how to align our hearts, lives, and thoughts up to the Living God.
Trust me when I say, He’s not quiet. He WANTS to be known by us, but we must be diligent to spend time with Him, getting to know Him more and more each day in order to accomplish that. For how can we be like our God if we do not know Him?!
To become more holy, we must first take ourselves off the throne in our life and put Him on, where He belongs.
Next, we must…
- Thirst for God
- Put away pride
- Have genuine compassion and empathy
- Be just and fair
- Show kindness
- Watch your speech
- Have no idols
- Keep the Sabbath
- Love your neighbor
- Be sexually pure
- Be financially pure
- Spend our time righteously
- Help others to become holy
…and more!
We’ll cover all this and so much more in the weeks to come!!! I’m really excited! 🎉
