​As I look across the street, it’s completely insane how fast houses are being built. One street over, they were working on a few weeks ago and now the street is almost done.
On the other side of me, more houses going up, big concrete walls.
Windows are put in.
It all seems so FAST!
One day you’re looking at nothing-ness, empty fields, and the next day it seems, there’s a new house there.
It reminds me how fast the world wants you to think growing your online business is.
They make it seem all shiny and pretty. Do this and you’ll make xxxx within x days.
You can’t really guarantee something like that. It’s stupid to think we can.

I started my Shopify store almost 4 years ago. I’ve made pretty good money in it (over $15M in revenue as of May 4, 2021 in the almost 4 years I’ve had the shop).
But I’ve also been blogging since Dec 2013.
I’ve been making money from home for 23 YEARS.
Overnight?!
HA!!!!
No way!
The power comes in doing something for a very long period of time.
Most people don’t do that. They reach a hurdle and give up. I see stores open. I see stores shut. I see bloggers start. I see bloggers walk away.
I think that whatever you decide to do in life, you have to do it for a very long time.
How long do you raise your kids for before sending them out into the world?
I guess that’s a loaded question, huh. But in general, it’s 18-ish years, right?
We invest in our children for 18 years.
But in our own businesses, we expect to see results in a month. WAHH? 🤯
Don’t get me wrong, you SHOULD see some sort of fruits within a month or so. But, I get emails all the time, how hard would it be to be like you and make $52,060 my first month on Shopify.
It’s a little insane. I mean I WANT to reply…23 years. Haha.
It doesn’t really take THAT long, but the world gives us this idea that it happens overnight. Does it? CAN it happen overnight? Sure! Absolutely!!! But those are very rare instances.
For most people, you have to think about your business like building an empire.
I started with a blog. It did well. Plain and simple.
I made good money.
Then I started a Shopify store. It did well. Plain and simple.
Now I create courses. They do well. Plain and simple.
I take the years, the time to really perFECT each foundation, each layer as I go.
23 YEARS ago, I sold my first item on ebay (Tweety Bird stickers) and made some money.
Today, I have a very large empire.
If you’re just starting today, it’s crazy to think you can have an empire tomorrow. UNLESS you already have a very large pre-existing collection of people begging you to sell them whatever it is you want to sell them.
No. You have to BUILD it.
You can set up your shop exactly how I show you in the Million Dollar Shop® course and get sales, but…
- If you don’t have a good product to sell 👉 you’re not going to sell
- If you’re not willing to be generous and over-give to people to attract them in and be willing to serve 👉 you can’t gain that trust to really help them
- If you aren’t willing to get out there and hit the pavement 👉 you’re not going to reach new people
You wanna know how I met my realtor, the best realtor I’ve EVER come across in my whole entire life?
She sent me a postcard in the mail.
I went to her website, saw it looked good and made an appointment to meet with her.
She has decades of experience.
I got lucky that I scored HER as my realtor! And to think that it all came because she mailed me a postcard. Apparently, she lives in the subdivision. Hiring someone who lives here in the subdivision I lived in at the time, has made all the difference when I sold my home.
She put out this really cool binder for people to look at with all kinds of information. She went way above and beyond the average realtor. She takes tons of pride in her work and it shows. She’s made me a lot more money than I would have made with anyone else, BECAUSE of her golden advice (make repairs before selling and wait to list till the market is hot).
Here’s the thing. I don’t GET a lot of postcards in the mail about realtor services.
She’s found a way to make her business stand out. 💣💯🤩
She’s found a way to capitalize on where she lives, so she saves on gas and knows the area best.
She’s one smart cookie. And that’s what YOU want to be.
You wanna market?
Think outside the box.
It’s not about doing what others do, it’s about creating your OWN system. Something that works…for…YOU!
Everyone is different. Everyone has different skills. Talents. Abilities. Play to yours.
Yours may not BE mine. Mine may not be yours. That’s okay. Do what works for you. Do what you know. What feels right in your gut.
👉 If you learn to listen to YOURSELF and not others, you will actually go a whole lot further in business. 💯
Does that mean you shouldn’t get training? No. It means you still have to be creative and when you get the training, you still have to figure out what works for YOU.
You’re still going to have to put in the work. There’s no short cut to being the best and being paid as the best.
Be an overachiever.
Do your best.
Do the work.
You may grow slower than others by doing your own work and not copying the test answers from someone else, but I promise you, in the long run, it WILL pay off. You will build an empire that is all your own. One you can be proud of. One that YOU worked for. You’ll know all the nuances of it, inside and out because YOU did it.
I’m PROUD of the business I created. Why? Because *I* created it!!!! 💯 It’s MY work. I didn’t cheat. And you know what? God honors that!!!!
What I’m NOT saying: I’m NOT saying that it’s gonna take you 23 years to make 8-figures. Everyone achieves levels at certain times based on a variety of things (I want to make a course all about THAT!), so please don’t let that discourage you.
What I AM saying though is that you cannot expect to make 7-figures or even 8-figures overnight. Things take time to build and you need to decide if what you’re doing right now is something you want to spend the next 5, 10, 20 years on. If it’s not, that’s okay too. Your situation may be different, your goals may be different and that’s totally okay, but building a lost-lasting, sustainable EMPIRE, takes years to build. 🥰
